From SPAIN about THE UK

”When first arrived in England, even though I could speak English fluently, I still was lacking the English manner of expressing things specially the continuous use of “please” and “thank you”. In Spanish or Catalan we do not use so many times these two words as in English because we compensate its use by adopting a gentle tone. As a consequence, I had to be reminded several times that I had to use both (or substitutes like cheers in informal talks) as many times as necessary regardless of how gentle my tone of voice was.”
